ECARS Roll Call Information |
On the second Saturday of each and every month, from 1000-1100 Eastern Time,
ECARS conducts a roll call of its members. This tradition has endured for decades.
If you happen to find yourself in the shack at the time of roll call, simply monitor
7255 for instructions from the Net Control Station, which is typically NJ2US. Roll
Call may suspended during June, July, and August, but Roll Call has been consistantly
conducted year round.
The actual operating procedure varies depending on band conditions, but generally, the NCS will call and listen first for mobile stations, followed by a call for ECARS elected and appointed Officers. If conditions are poor, there will be a general call for members to provide their full call signs, phonetically. Then these stations will be addressed in turn, reviewing and confirming their ECARS membership number. The checkins are generally brief, limited to an exchange of a short pleasantry and a signal report. If the band is in great condition, checkins are sorted by call sign district, which helps to split the pile up into manageable chunks. Non-members will be invited to check in, keeping with the spirit of an open and friendly net, and further as an opportunity to recruit new ECARS members. NetLogger (a free download from http://netlogger.org) is used for Roll Call. A significant number of stations log into NetLogger and the "on line" stations are automatically added into the check in flow. It saves having to fight the "pileups". Check out the website NJ2US.NET. There you will find a low latency live stream of 7255, in addition, there is a YouTub channel link, where you will find an archive of every single daily ECARS session going back several years. There is a long legacy of ECARS operations preserved there for posterity >nd reference. If you search that archive for any Saturday, and drag the time slider to 1000 HRS ET, you can listen to an actual Roll-Call. Thank you for your interest, and I hope to check you in some time soon.
